Description

Book IX of the Odyssey contains some of the epic’s most memorable stories, most of all the encounter with the cyclops. In this course we will read and discuss most of Book IX in the original Homeric Greek without translation, using paraphrases and synonyms to explain challenging phrases and vocabulary. No prior experience with the Homeric dialect is required; the differences between Homeric Greek and Attic will be explained as we encounter them in the text.
