Antoninus Liberalis (c. 2nd – 3rd century AD), despite his Latin-sounding name, wrote in Greek. Nothing is known of his life, nevertheless, based upon his name, some scholars have suggested that he was a freed slave who lived during or after the times of the Antonine emperors.
The Greek and Latin Antiquity has produced several Metamorphoses, accounts telling the stories of both men and women (sometimes even immortal gods) who were changed into animals, stars, plants or different inanimate objects, or even into a person of the opposite sex – as in the case of Tiresias.
Even though Ovid and Apollodorus are probably the most celebrated of these authors, metamorphoses of this kind can be found in the works of Aelian, Conon, Herodotus, Homer, Hyginus, Lucian, Parthenius, Pausanias, Plutarch and others.
The Metamorphoses of Antoninus Liberalis, consisting of forty-one stories written in a simple, easily comprehensible style, is especially suitable for intermediate readers who are eager to understand an original Greek text and practice the active use of the language. In our sessions, we will read, explain, and discuss these extraordinary stories, compare them to the metamorphoses preserved by other authors, and finally write our own Metamorphoses! Instruction and all accompanying course activities are conducted in Ancient Greek.

Which pronunciation do you use?
We use the Erasmian pronunciation of Ancient Greek.
How many students are there in each class?
Classes are capped at six students.
Where do classes meet?
We will meet on Zoom or Teams. The teacher will send you the meeting link before the first session.
What happens after my purchase?
After you have paid you will receive a confirmation email. A week before the class starts, the teacher will send you the meeting link as well as other useful information.
Which payment methods do you offer? Can I pay by bank transfer or wire transfer?

What happens if I have to cancel a class?
You can cancel your registration any time via email. If you cancel before a class has started, you will receive a full refund of the course fee you have paid minus a ten percent administration fee. If you have to cancel a class that has already started, you will receive a partial refund in direct proportion to the number of classes that you have attended minus the ten percent administration fee. For example: If you have to cancel half way in of a course, you will receive a 50% refund minus 10% percent of the originally paid course fee.
