Course Description

Learn Ancient Greek, make friends, and explore a city full of history—all at the same time!

We offer you a five day immersive Ancient Greek program, set in the historic center of Prague. We will spend our mornings in the class room, reading and discussing timeless texts like the Easter story from the New Testament. In the afternoon, we will go out and explore the city, visiting famous sites like Prague castle and Charles’ bridge as well as hidden gems that lie off the beaten track: all of this, of course, in Ancient Greek!

Standard: 480€
Students: 400€

Teachers

Karolina Doušová

Karolina teaches Latin and Ancient Greek as living languages in Prague (at Charles University and at “Gymnázium Jaroslava Seiferta”). She has taught various spoken Latin and Greek classes, in person as well as online, e.g. Caelum and Οὐρανός for Cultura Clásica in Madrid, Spain.

Jenny Teichmann

Jenny has taught numerous classes in spoken Latin and Ancient Greek for Triodos Trivium (Berlin), the Paideia Institute (New York), and Cultura Clásica (Madrid).

FAQ

For whom is this class?

This class is for advanced beginners to intermediate/advanced students. It aims at:

  • students who want to deepen their knowledge of Ancient Greek through immersion
  • teachers of Ancient Greek interested in the active method

Are there any prerequisites?

  • basic knowledge of Ancient Greek (at least one year of university studies or equivalent)
  • previous experience speaking Ancient Greek is welcome but not necessary

Do you provide accommodation? Where can I stay in Prague?

We have booked a limited number of hotel rooms ranging from 40€/night to 115€/night (depending on location and whether or not you want to share a room). If you are interested in one of the pre-booked rooms, please let us know and we will give you more details. If you want to find your own accommodation, we strongly suggest that you do so as soon as possible since Prague over Easter is a highly popular travel destination.

Where will classes be held?

At Charles University, in the historic city center (see map below). In addition to the class room we will also go out and explore the city and its museums with guided tours in Ancient Greek.

Will Argos be there?

No, Argos doesn’t like the bustling city life, so he will stay ἐν τοῖς ἀγροῖς, practice his Greek and wait for Jenny to return. ὁ δὲ Ἄργος ἀσπάζεται ὑμᾶς πάντας·
