Description

The Stoic philosopher Epictetus provides practical advice on how to live well, often using the examples of Greek heroes to illustrate his teachings. In this course, we will read passages from Epictetus’ Discourses that examine the behavior of heroes such as Agamemnon, Achilles, Odysseus, and Heracles. We will occasionally compare Epictetus’ descriptions to excerpts from other texts, such as the Iliad. All reading and discussion will take place in ancient Greek.
